For a real family oriented, traditional Independence Day celebration the El Dorado County Fairgrounds, 100 Placerville Drive in Placerville, will be ready to provide a memorable afternoon and evening full of fun for the whole family with its annual Fourth of July Family Blast — wrapping up the celebration in the evening with an incredible fireworks display. Gates open at 4 p.m.

Pyro Spectaculars again will be dazzling spectators over the fairgrounds. Pyro Spectaculars, a multi-generation family business that started in the early 1900s, has produced stunning shows for Macy’s 4th of July Parade, superbowls, the 100th and 125th anniversaries of the Statue of Liberty and more locally greeted the New Year 2018 with a bang over the Golden Gate Bridge and in the New Year’s Eve Sky Spectacular Show in Old Sacramento.

Although food and beverages will be available for purchase, attendees can bring their own propane barbecues and cooler. There will be fun activities for the kids — hay mazes and free contests and games, pony rides plus — new this year — carnival type rides like a Super Slide, Raiders and a Mardi Gras fun house.

Fun attractions

The Super Slide is super fun, riders slide on a mat and speed down a 90-foot long, three lane slide.

The Raiders is a multi-level obstacle course featuring more than 10 fun elements including punching bags, a cargo net climb, rubber band maze, inflatable slide, two long suspension bridges and a 45-foot long covered slide into an air pillow.

The party is inside the Mardi Gras — a two-story mirror maze with a spiral slide at the end.

There will be a band playing from 6-10 p.m. so bring those dancing shoes to enjoy the music.

Jody Gray, CEO of the El Dorado County Fair and Event Center, revealed, “We will have one band, it will most likely be a classic rock cover band. We use the MORE test to choose our Bands. The Mother Lode Rehabilitation Enterprises clients come each year and many of them dance all night if the band plays what they like, so when we choose the band, we ask ourselves if they are MORE worthy.”

MORE is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting persons with disabilities. For more information about MORE visit morerehab.org.
