Rose Bowl's July Fourth Fireworks Show to Feature "Act" Beaming in From 365 Million Miles Away

Just minutes before the AmericaFest fireworks show lights up the skies over the Rose Bowl this Fourth of July — and over 365 million miles away from Pasadena — JPL’s Juno spacecraft will pull into orbit around Jupiter.

Back on earth in the Arroyo Seco, giant screens will display a live feed from the mission control room so AmericaFest-goers can witness the long-awaited arrival of a mission managed right here in Pasadena since 2011.

“To mark one of the nation’s longest running Fourth of July shows, this year we’ve teamed up with JPL to celebrate Juno reaching Jupiter on this Independence Day,” said Darryl Dunn, General Manager of the Rose Bowl.

“Our tie-in with JPL is the most exciting part about this year’s show. There’s a lot of space-oriented elements to the program,” said Dunn.

Pasadena-based The Planetary Society’s Bill Nye “The Science Guy” has partnered with the Rose Bowl and will be the spokesperson for this year’s science-driven AmericaFest.

The show will feature the elaborate firework creations from Pyro Spectaculars created by the Souza family, who have filled the skies over the Rose Bowl with sensational fireworks entertainment for more than 35 years.

Guests will be treated to a variety of firework artistry including a highlighted twenty seven minute segment dedicated entirely to Juno space mission as well as a special firework shell called the “Moons of Jupiter” designed to commemorate JPL’s expedition.

“You really get to be part of a larger-than-life show that transforms the evening sky into a shower of explosive lights and colors,” said Paul Souza, Pyro Spectaculars’ Rose Bowl show producer. “This year we have some surprises that will deliver many ‘oohs and ahs’.”

“The show itself is entirely multimedia.You really got to be inside in a seat to really get a grasp of the entire evening,” explained Souza.

The sophisticated show features seven positions of firework areas in the golf course in conjunction with another seven located inside the Rose Bowl stadium that will be ready to blast into the dusk sky.

“Firework technology has moved much like other technology we’ve seen,” said Souza. “One of the things where technology has changed is that we fire the show with a computer. It allows us to have really precise timing control.”

AmericaFest will feature moving patriotic opening ceremonies that will include Presentation of Colors and the National Anthem sung by the JPL choir.

Other exciting festivities will feature live motorcycle stunts by TNT and a musical performance by renowned Beatles tribute band the Liverpool Legends.

A Family Fun Zone outside the stadium will open in the afternoon and offers food vendors, entertainment, crafts, exhibits and inflatable rides for the kids.

Pyro Spectaculars has produced shows for the NFL Super Bowls, the Olympic Games and major events globally.

Tickets for AmericaFest presented by Honda, are on sale now at www.ticketmaster.com and are priced at $13 for general admission and $25 for reserved. Children 5 years and under are admitted free.

Event parking is $25 per car vehicle at all lots. Members of the active military and three of their family members will also receive free admission by showing a current military identification at Rose Bowl Stadium Gate B on the day of the event.
